Cause Of this war
King Phillip's War was sometimes called the First Indian War, or Metacom's Rebellion. In 1662, the English who had entered the "New Land" as they called it, had all migrated there, along with the Native Americans who lay resident there for ages before the English. When they summoned the brother of Metacom, Wamsutta, (In English King Phillip) they took him at gun point and began to interrogate him which soon after caused him to die of sickness.
The mere fact that the English had the audacity to come into a land that was owned by the Native American's was enough to infurite the Native Americans and now they killed one of their people, it caused them to finally take become even more angry. Ties between the Indians and the English began to weaken and the steady loss of lands form the Natives to the English caused them to rely more on the goods of the English.
The honesty of the Inidan tribe which were constantly being harassed by the English ( Normally called the Wampanogs) were still being questioned by the English so they decided to take in Phillip for questioning. Soon after they fined him and demanded the Indians handed over all their arms, which the did.
In January 1675, the Indian by the name of John Sassamon died, and after further investigation, it was found that he was indeed a Christian convert. The assumption that King Phillip ordered him killed due the fact that John's action of chnging religion was an act of betrayal was enough to have him executed. However, this is yet to be deemed a fact.
The English took no time to hesitate and immediately acted, bringing in the two suspected murderers and tried, then executed them at Plymouth.
Continuously, throughout the years, the Native Americans spent their lives having their land stolen and many of their livestock stolen from them.
After a series of attacks, the English attempted to compromise with King Phillip. However, before the end of that month, King Phillip's troops attacked Swansea on the Taunton River, and not much longer after troops from Massachusetts came to aid the Plymouth trooop's.
